AGRA: The Railways has sanctioned Rs 9,204 crore in funds for doubling the Agra-Bandikui (150 km) route and laying a 428.8 km long 4th rail track between Mathura & Bina via Agra and Dholpur. In Agra, General Manager of North Central Railway (NCR) MC Chauhan announced the ambitious project, which is expected to double passenger train services in these routes.
- “In the next three years, we expect to complete doubling the 150 km long Agra Fort-Bandikui section, which will increase the efficiency of train operations and reduce travel time. Similarly, the Mathura-Dholpur and Dholpur-Bina sections will be completed in less than a decade,” Gaurav Bansal, CPRO, NCR zone said.
- Currently, there is a 4th railway track between the national capital & Mathura junction, to ease traffic congestion as over 400 trains including mail, express, passenger as well as freight & cargo trains pass via Agra division of NCR zone, according to railway authorities.
- A railway official said,”The fourth line from Mathura to Bina will help in increasing goods transport volume. Currently we give preference to express trains over goods trains, as punctuality of passenger trains is a priority. But the demand for cargo transportation has also increased over the years, and we want to reduce the time for goods transportation. The doubling of Agra-Bandikui section will help us to increase the number of trains for passengers. At present close to 25 trains operate between Agra and Jaipur on this route.”
