RailTel bags Rs. 162.59 crore contract from Ircon for tunnel communication on Sivok–Rangpo Rail Line

RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. has bagged a major contract worth Rs. 162.59 crore by IRCON International Ltd. The project consists of implementing Integrated Tunnel Communication and general telecommunication systems for the Sivok–Rangpo New Broad Gauge Line under Northeast Frontier Railway. Completion is scheduled by March 28, 2026.


Marking a significant milestone, RailTel has received a prestigious work order valued at Rs. 1,62,58,96,785. The order was placed by Ircon International Ltd., a key infrastructure player. The tunnel communication system is vital for safe train operations in hilly and seismic zones. This project marks another milestone in RailTel’s contribution to railway modernization.

Scope of Work:

  • The scope includes Integrated Tunnel Communication systems. It also covers Railway General Telecommunication arrangements. These are essential for secure, reliable communication in tunnels and challenging terrains.

  • The contract is part of the Sivok–Rangpo New Broad Gauge Rail Line project.
  • This strategic rail link is under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone.

  • IRCON International Ltd. has made significant progress on the strategic Sivok-Rangpo Rail Project, achieving a major milestone with the successful erection of 3×76.3m Open Web girders on Bridge No. 15. This accomplishment marks the completion of 8 out of the 13 major bridges, showcasing IRCON’s engineering expertise, precise execution, and unwavering commitment despite the challenges of working in the rugged Himalayan terrain.
  • Further advancing the project, IRCON also launched 2×69m Open Web girders for Bridge No. 6—another key step in strengthening rail connectivity between West Bengal and Sikkim. With 7 of the 13 major bridges completed, the project continues to progress steadily, paving the way for enhanced regional connectivity, improved transportation infrastructure, and long-term economic development in the northeastern corridor.
