Pune Metro Update: State Cabinet Gives Its Nod To 23.3km Long Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line

Pune: On Tuesday, the state cabinet gave its nod to the 23.3km long Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro line, which will be built at a cost of Rs 8,313 crore. Kiran Gitte, commissioner, PMRDA, said,”The work for the line will be carried out in phases. The first phase between Hinjewadi & Balewadi will be completed by April 2019 and the second phase between Balewadi & Shivajinagar will be completed by 2021.”

The PPP Project-

  • The Metro line will be executed under the PPP (Public Private Partnership) model.
  • PMRDA officials said,”The bidder for the project will be finalized by April this year. If everything goes as per the plan, the work should commence by June.”
  • PMRDA has shortlisted 3 companies that could bid for the project, including-
  1. Tata Realty Siemens JV
  2. IRB in consortium with Chinese and Malaysian companies
  3. IL&FS
  • Gitte said,”The final bid is expected to be cleared by March or April.”
  • The metro project will be implemented according to the new Metro rail policy 2017, Gitte said.

  • He added,”All the stations will be equipped with the latest technology, amenities and state-of-the-art infrastructure. The entire Metro is expected to be monitored by automated technologies.”
  • The Metro rail will ply through-
  1. Hinjewadi
  2. Wakad
  3. Balewadi
  4. Pune University
  5. Shivajinagar
  • At Shivajinagar junction, it would align with the other 2 Metro lines at civil court junction
