PM Modi to inaugurate 13 km extension of RRTS Namo Bharat corridor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Sahibabad–New Ashok Nagar stretch of the Namo Bharat Corridor on January 5, 2025. Passenger services will commence the same day at 5 PM, offering seamless high-speed connectivity between Delhi and Meerut, reducing travel time by one-third and promoting sustainable mobility.


Prime Minister to Unveil Key Milestone in Regional Connectivity:

The Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, is set to inaugurate a 13-km additional section of the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor on January 5, 2025. The newly operational stretch connects Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar, marking a pivotal step in advancing high-speed regional mobility and reducing travel time between Delhi and Meerut.

Passenger services on the newly extended route will begin at 5 PM, with trains running at a frequency of 15 minutes. This milestone expands the operational corridor to 55 km, serving 11 stations in total.

Enhanced Travel Experience and Affordable Fares:

  • Connectivity: Commuters can now travel from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South in under 40 minutes.
  • Fares: Rs. 150 for standard coaches and Rs. 225 for premium coaches for the Delhi-Meerut route.
  • Since its inception, the Namo Bharat Corridor has served over 50 lakh passengers, a testament to its efficiency and popularity.

The newly added stretch includes two significant stations:

Anand Vihar Station (Underground):

  • Located 8 meters below ground level.
  • Offers seamless integration with six public transport modes, including Metro lines, ISBTs, and the railway station.
  • Features three bridges over the Ghazipur drain for vehicle and pedestrian access.

New Ashok Nagar Station (Elevated):

  • Positioned 20 meters above the existing Metro station.
  • Connected to the Delhi Metro Blue Line via a 90-meter-long FOB.
  • Equipped with parking for over 500 vehicles.

Namo Bharat stations prioritize inclusivity and convenience:

  • Free drinking water, washrooms, and tactile paths for the visually impaired.
  • Reserved spaces for women, elderly, and Divyaangjans in trains.
  • Dedicated wheelchair access and panic buttons for emergencies.

Sustainability and Urban Impact:

  • The Namo Bharat project is aligned with the PM Gati Shakti-National Master Plan, promoting modal shifts toward public transport. Once fully operational, the corridor is expected to:
    • Remove over 1 lakh private vehicles from roads.
    • Cut carbon emissions by 2.5 lakh tonnes annually.
