New 30km Bagalkot-Khajjidoni Line Commissioned; Electrification From Ramanagaram to Mysuru Completed: General Manager South Western Railway

Hubballi: South Western Railway (SWR) will renew nearly 200km of old & out-of-date tracks this year, said A K Gupta, general manager, SWR. “Doubling and electrification works have been sanctioned on all mainlines and are under execution in fast pace. The new 30km Bagalkot-Khajjidoni line is ready for opening. Electrification from Ramanagaram to Mysuru (94km) has been completed,” Gupta speaking at the Republic Day event at the Railway Sports Ground in Hubballi, said.

  • Gupta said,”SWR has carried 150 million passengers during the first nine months of this financial year, which is 2.2% more than the previous year.”
  • He said,”The freight loading during first nine months of this financial year is 32 million tonnes and the originating freight earnings was about Rs 2,440 crore during the same period.”
  • 10 trains have been introduced and 6 trains were extended in this financial year, Gupta said.
  • Gupta said,”Mechanized cleaning of coaches has been introduced in all seven coaching depots of SWR. As part of green initiatives, 665 kilowatt-peak (kWp) roof top solar panels have been commissioned all over SWR including Rail Soudha, Hubballi this year. Also, water harvesting and recycling plants have been commissioned at Rail Soudha, Mysuru.”
