The 82nd Network Planning Group (NPG) meeting under PM Gati Shakti, chaired by Shri Rajeev Singh Thakur, evaluated critical infrastructure projects aimed at boosting multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency. Key projects in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Jharkhand were reviewed, promising significant socio-economic benefits and enhanced freight capacity.
Key Participants and Objectives:
The meeting saw participation from project proponents, BISAG-N, and nodal officers from various states. The primary objective was to assess five crucial infrastructure projects aligned with PM Gati Shakti’s core principles of integrated development, last-mile connectivity, intermodal connectivity, and synchronised project implementation.
Projects Evaluated:
Jharsuguda to Sason 3rd & 4th Rail Lines, Odisha:
- A 64 km rail line aimed at doubling coal transport capacity and improving connectivity to major ports and industrial hubs, boosting logistics efficiency in Odisha’s Energy Corridor.
Sambalpur to Jarapada Rail Line (3rd & 4th lines), Odisha:
- Spanning 127.2 km, this project supports the coal supply chain and aligns with the “Mission 3000 MT” initiative, enhancing logistics to major ports and industrial clusters.
Tirupati-Katpadi Double Line, Andhra Pradesh & Tamil Nadu:
- A 104.39 km rail line addressing high traffic density, facilitating freight logistics for industrial parks and SEZs, and improving port connectivity for better goods and passenger movement.
Doubling Projects in Jharkhand:
- Koderma – Arigada Rail Line: 133.38 km
- Shivpur – Kathautia Rail Line: 49.08 km
- These projects focus on increasing freight capacity in coal-transporting regions, addressing bottlenecks, and enhancing logistics performance.
Conclusion:
The projects evaluated by the NPG in its 82nd meeting underscore a strategic push towards multimodal connectivity and logistics efficiency. These initiatives are expected to revolutionise infrastructure in their respective regions, supporting economic growth, reducing travel times, and enhancing freight and passenger movement, ultimately contributing to India’s socio-economic development.
