In a bold initiative towards green mobility and women empowerment, NCRTC launched an Electric Bike Taxi Service at Meerut South Namo Bharat Station. This initiative is operated by trained female riders only, it highlights safe, sustainable, and inclusive last-mile connectivity for female commuters within a 5-km radius.
Introduction:
National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) launched a Electric Bike Taxi Service for women at Meerut South Namo Bharat Station. This initiative was started on World Environment Day, a significant move towards green mobility and women safety and convenience. This was possible because of the collaboration with UTU Mobility, it aligns with the NCRTC’s goal of achieving safer and greener public transport.
By Women, For Women:
A much needed step for women convenience, an electric bike taxi service operated by only trained female riders and the service is exclusively available for women commuters. Women centric system is what NCRTC is going for when they strategize this initiative, it will make travelling efficient and safe for women.
NCRTC has chosen the Meerut South Station because of the highest ridership among all of the Namo Bharat stations, providing women a hassle free way to travel without feeling uncomfortable. At Meerut South Station, it was launched from the parking zone closer to Gate No. 1, the initial plan is to provide service with 10 electric bikes in rush hours. The fares are nominal so women can afford and have a smooth travelling experience.
Addressing Gendered Mobility Challenges:
In this time women needed safe, inclusive, and reliable transportation as they face several challenges while travelling from one place to another. When they travel with children, and luggage it becomes very difficult, elderly and disabled women also face a lot of challenges during travelling.
This “By Women, For Women” approach not only provides a safer solution for travelling but also generates employment for women in the mobility sector.
Expansion Plans Underway:
NCRTC will review all the aspects of this initiative and see what is working, what is not and what parts need improvement. This is trial to see how this development will work in the area, if it is successful then it will be implemented over other Namo Bharat stations. Gender-sensitive and eco-friendly mobility solutions are what India needs so this is a terrific way to make our country’s public transport safe for women.
Strengthening Last-Mile Integration:
In addition to the new bike taxi service, NCRTC has undertaken several other steps to improve connectivity. This consists of the integration of AC electric city buses with Delhi’s Namo Bharat stations (New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar) in collaboration with Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Moreover, at Ghaziabad stations e-rickshaws and services like Rapido are operational.
Green Initiatives Celebrated on World Environment Day:
On the occasion, NCRTC also engaged with commuters to raise awareness about environmental sustainability initiatives embedded in the Namo Bharat system. Activities included a pop-quiz, awareness sessions, and a tree plantation drive at the Duhai Depot. Other ongoing green practices include rooftop solar panels, rainwater harvesting, regenerative braking systems, and energy-saving push buttons in trains.
Conclusion:
With this women-only electric bike service, NCRTC has taken a crucial step toward reliable and eco-friendly transit. This initiative not only accelerates last-mile connectivity but also improves safety and empowerment. As it advances further, it promises a greener, smarter, and more equitable future for public transport in India.
