The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has awarded a Rs. 39.6 lakh contract to Mathur Ugam and Associates for designing multimodal bus terminals and depots near Meerut South and Modipuram RRTS stations. The project aims to decongest Delhi Road by relocating the Bhaisali bus terminal to new strategic locations, enhancing multimodal integration and traffic management.
Background:
The existing Bhaisali Bus Terminal in Meerut’s densely populated Delhi Road area faces severe congestion due to high bus traffic and roadside passenger activities. To address this, the Uttar Pradesh Government assigned NCRTC to relocate the terminal and depots near under-construction RRTS stations.
The project includes:
- Shifting the Bhaisali Bus Terminal to two new locations near Meerut South RRTS station and Modipuram RRTS station.
- Constructing a depot on government land at Palhera.
- Building roadside and off-road bus queue shelters to streamline traffic near Meerut bypass.
Proposed Site Details:
- Meerut South Bus Terminal: Behind Meerut South RRTS station; 3.5 acres with planned sheds and buildings.
- Modipuram Bus Depot: Adjacent to Modipuram RRTS station; 5.95 acres for a maintenance depot and terminal facilities.
- Mini Off-Road Terminal: Near the Sardhana and Baghpat road bypass intersection; 0.50 acres for a mini terminal.
- Bus Queue Shelters: Strategic roadside locations to facilitate smooth bus operations.
Conclusion:
This multimodal initiative by NCRTC aims to transform Meerut’s public transport infrastructure, reducing congestion and enhancing connectivity. The design consultancy’s 24 months contract underscores the commitment to building efficient, integrated transport hubs, aligning with urban mobility goals and providing a seamless commuting experience for residents and visitors alike.
