NCRTC and DTC have partnered to integrate air-conditioned electric buses with Namo Bharat stations in Delhi, going for seamless last-mile connectivity. Routes connecting New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar increase access to high-speed rail services. This eco-friendly initiative encourages public transport use and helps tackle traffic congestion and pollution.
Introduction:
NCRTC, in collaboration with Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), is enhancing last-mile connectivity at Namo Bharat stations. Initially, three bus routes have been linked to operational stations at New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar, improving passenger convenience and integrating high-speed rail with citywide public transport networks.
Electric AC Buses on Key Routes:
- Electric air-conditioned buses now serve key routes including New Ashok Nagar to Anand Vihar ISBT, Anand Vihar ISBT to Ashok Nagar Border, and Ashok Nagar Border to Mayur Vihar Phase-3.
- These buses make dedicated stops at Namo Bharat stations, helping passengers transfer easily between rail and bus services.
Extended Service Hours and Reach:
Running from 6:30 AM to 11:00 PM, these buses connect localities such as Chilla Village, New Kondli, Dallupura, Ghazipur, and Trilok Puri. The integration ensures better access to the Namo Bharat corridor, especially for residents traveling towards Ghaziabad and Meerut.
Sustainable, Green Transport Push:
- This effort aligns with NCRTC’s push for sustainable and environment-friendly travel solutions.
- In addition to e-rickshaws and Rapido services already available in Ghaziabad, the electric buses under the DEVI Bus Scheme (Delhi Electric Vehicle Interchange Scheme) reinforce the government’s commitment to green mobility.
Building a Public Transport Culture:
The NCRTC-DTC partnership aims to encourage public transport use by improving first and last-mile connections. This move is expected to reduce dependency on private vehicles, cut road congestion, and lower pollution levels — offering a long-term urban mobility solution.
Conclusion:
The Namo Bharat project’s integration with electric buses marks a significant leap towards sustainable, efficient urban mobility. As NCRTC prepares to operationalize the full 82 km Delhi–Meerut corridor this year, enhanced last-mile services will be crucial in driving commuter shifts towards greener, faster public transportation.
