HYDERABAD: The Nagole-Mettuguda Metro Rail stretch is now ready to be extended upto Begumpet after completion of works pertaining to the rail-over-bridge at Begumpet railway station, thus closing a critical gap in Metro Rail Corridor-3.
HMRL Managing Director, NVS Reddy said, with this achievement & after completion of Oliphenta Bridge near Secunderabad station, which is expected in the next few weeks, the extension of the 8km long stretch of Nagole-Mettuguda upto Begumpet becomes feasible.
It was a highly challenging task to build viaduct over round-the-clock busy railway lines, officials said.
It is curved & wedged between Begumpet flyover on one side & several buildings on the other.
A ‘bridge builder’ device weighing about 100 MT was used for the first time in the city for construction of the metro RoB at a height of 60 feet from the ground without causing disruption to the continuous movement of trains, station operations, passengers & road traffic.
