N.F. Railway Update: Remote diagnostic & predictive maintenance system installed at Tangla station under Rangiya division

In a bid to achieve the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister to make use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a better future for citizens, Indian Railways decided to shift from Schedule based Maintenance regime to Predictive based Maintenance regime to reduce the load on maintenance of assets.

More Details:

  • In line with it, Remote Diagnostic & Predictive Maintenance System (RDPMS) has been installed at Tangla Station under Rangiya Division. The RDPMS is designed for monitoring of signalling gears to predict possible failures.
  • The main objective of RDPMS is to prevent the failure of signalling gears by assisting signalling maintenance teams to take appropriate maintenance action in advance.
  • All the real time data from signalling equipment are collected through sensors which will play a vital role in overall reliability of the system. RDPMS will ease monitoring, maintaining and predicting the status and health of different assets that are installed in the station.
  • The AI based RDPMS will provide predictive and preventive failure alerts to increase productivity and reduce the maintenance time and cost.
  • This will result in safer and punctual train operations. In future, such AI based maintenance shall be used for all fixed assets in Northeast Frontier Railway like bridges, etc.
  • Periodical maintenance is a traditional way of maintaining signalling gears as per the fixed roaster schedule.
  • This arrangement requires regular engagement of manpower and assets replacement activity based on the codal life.
  • It is a time consuming process, costly affair and rectification time is more as the maintenance team is not available 24×7 at all stations. To improve the reliability and monitoring of the system, RDPMS has been introduced.
