Mumbai Metro Line 2B: MMRDA commences trial run on 5.39 km stretch under Phase-1

MMRDA has commenced trial runs on Metro Line 2B’s 5.39 km stretch from Mandale Depot to Diamond Garden. With 98% work completed, the corridor spans five stations and integrates major transport networks. Trial Run Commencement:

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has launched the trial run for Metro Line 2B (Phase 1), covering a 5.39 km stretch from Mandale Depot to Diamond Garden. The stretch includes five metro stations — Mandale, Mankhurd, BSNL, Shivaji Chowk, and Diamond Garden — with 98% construction work completed.

Senior Leadership Review:

The review of Metro Line 2B Phase-1 was conducted by Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee (IAS), Metropolitan Commissioner, accompanied by Mr. Vikram Kumar (IAS), Mr. Ashwin Mudgal (IAS), and Smt. Rubal Agarwal (IAS), MD, MMMOCL. The leadership emphasized strict timelines for final certifications and completion.

Key Infrastructure Highlights:

  • India’s Largest Metro Depot: Mandale Depot has the capacity to house 72 metro trains.
  • Multi-Modal Integration: The line will connect Western & Central Railways, Monorail, Eastern & Western Express Highways, and Metro Lines 2A, 3, and 4.

Phase-1 trial operations involve:

  • Traction and Signaling System Trials
  • RDSO Inspections of rolling stock
  • CMRS Safety Certifications

The PIU has been instructed to prioritize timely inspections and approvals.
