Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project advances with completion of 12 river bridges

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor has achieved a significant milestone with the completion of all nine river bridges between Vapi and Surat, including the latest on the Kharera River. This marks the 12th of 20 river bridges completed in Gujarat, enhancing connectivity and construction progress on this ambitious project.


Introduction:

The bridge on Kharera River, Navsari district, Gujarat was completed on 29th October 2024 for the Bullet Train Project which marks the completion of all river bridges (Total: 09) Between Vapi and Surat Bullet Train Stations of Mumbai Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor. This is the 12th river bridge completed out of the 20 river bridges in Gujarat state.

Salient features of bridge on Kharera river are:

  • Length of the bridge: 120 metres
  • Consists of 3 Full Span Girders (40 metres each)
  • Height of Piers – 14.5 m to 19 m metres
  • One (01) circular pier of 4 m and Three (03) circular piers of 5 m diameter
  • This bridge is in between Vapi and Bilimora Bullet Train station. Other completed river bridges between the two stations are on Kolak, Par, Auranga and Kaveri River
  • This river is one of the tributaries of the Ambika River, which originates from the hills of Vansda taluka in the border area of Gujarat state with the state of Maharashtra
  • Kharera river is approx. 45 kms from Vapi Bullet Train station and 6 kms from Bilimora Bullet Train station

The 12 river bridges completed on the corridor in Gujarat are:

  • Between Vapi and Surat Bullet Train Stations: Karera (Navsari district), Par (Valsad district), Purna (Navsari district), Mindhola (Navsari district), Ambika (Navsari district), Auranga (Valsad district), Kolak River (Valsad district), Kaveri River (Navsari district) and Venganiya (Navsari district) – Total 9
  • Other completed river bridges: Dhadhar (Vadodara district), Mohar (Kheda district), Vatrak River (Kheda district) – Total 3

Conclusion:

The completion of these critical river bridges showcases the steadfast progress of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Corridor, positioning it as a transformative infrastructure project for India’s rail connectivity. With more bridges nearing completion, the project moves closer to revolutionising high-speed travel in the country.
