Shri Srinivas Katikithala, Secretary, MoHUA, visited the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor, reviewed its operational readiness, and inaugurated NCRTC’s largest rooftop solar plant at Ghaziabad Station. He experienced the Namo Bharat train, praised multi-modal integration, and commended NCRTC’s use of cutting-edge technologies and commitment to sustainability, women empowerment, and commuter-centric features.
Operational Readiness Review:
The Secretary evaluated preparations for the commencement of operations in the Delhi section of the RRTS corridor, where trial runs are in full swing. During his review, he appreciated NCRTC’s efforts in seamlessly integrating the RRTS stations with existing transport modes through Foot-Over Bridges (FOBs), lifts, and escalators. This multi-modal integration at New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar stations enhances connectivity with Delhi Metro and other transport options.
Sustainability Milestone:
At the Ghaziabad RRTS station, Shri Katikithala inaugurated NCRTC’s largest rooftop solar power plant, with a capacity of approximately 1 MWp. This initiative reflects NCRTC’s vision to create eco-friendly transit solutions, aligning with its goal of reducing CO2 emissions by 4,100 tons annually through 4 MWp of solar power generation across its infrastructure.
Experience on Namo Bharat Train:
The Secretary traveled aboard the Namo Bharat train, experiencing its commuter-friendly features, including amenities for medical emergencies, such as dedicated stretcher spaces. He interacted with the train operators and station controllers, many of whom are women, highlighting the project’s alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision of women-led development.
Cutting-Edge Technologies:
NCRTC presented a detailed briefing on the RRTS project, showcasing advanced technologies like ETCS-2 signaling and Building Information Modelling (BIM). The Secretary applauded NCRTC’s use of innovative technologies, many of which are firsts for India and, in some cases, the world.
Current Operations:
The RRTS corridor’s operational section spans 42 km, connecting nine stations, including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, and Meerut South. This section exemplifies the project’s commitment to providing fast, reliable, and sustainable regional transport.
