LMRC Completes 100% Sub-Structural Civil Work Of All The Elevated Stations Of North-South Corridor From KD Singh Stadium To Munshipulia

The establishment of last cantilever pier cap of north-south corridor (phase 1-A) marked the completion of sub-structural construction of viaduct and all the elevated Metro stations between KD Singh Stadium and Munshipulia. Shri Kumar Keshav, Managing Director/LMRC said,” The final phase of construction was completed within the target deadline only due to extreme hard work, dedication, commitment and perseverance of LMRC team, contractual agencies M/s GC and M/s L&T assigned for this project.”

The sub-structure consists of piles, pile cap, pier and pier cap. A total number of 2321 piles were erected during construction phase which includes 541 pile caps as well.  21 different types and sizes of steel spans were constructed in this project like 60m steel span (near Nishatganj flyover) and 45m steel spans (1 beside hotel Clark Awadh and 4 in Indira Nagar, in proximity to HAL). Apart from this there are 541 piers, 262 pier caps and 39 Cantilever pier caps which have been erected successfully. The most remarkable achievement was the erection of curved U-girders near IT chauraha for the first time by LMRC. The erection of I-girders near polytechnic chauraha was also difficult owing to traffic congestions in that area.

LMRC faced major challenges during the sub-structural project work like the construction of piles and pile-caps at Gomti riverbed for Cantilever span. Especially during the monsoon the level of river increased drastically for which irrigation department had to be consulted to monitor, control and check the water level for smooth functioning of construction phase. The erection work of 60m special steel span at Nishatganj flyover and near railway track proved to be a daunting task considering the fact that there was very confined space for crane movement. The train movement was also not hindered during the erection and installation work. The problem of movement of Form Travellers for casting had to be overcome due to S-curve at Cantilever section (CLC) in spite of all odds. The alignment procedure was quite tough for which additional surveyor was hired.

The public cooperation and support of locals during the construction phase cannot be ignored in terms of frequent traffic diversions at that time. No permanent demolition of any structure was done during the construction on similar lines of priority corridor. LMRC shall restore back all the temporary dismantling being done during the working of final phase of this project.
