Kochi Metro Phase-2: Egis Rail bags Rs. 7.32 crore consultancy contract for station design

In a significant step, Kochi Metro Rail Limited has awarded a contract worth INR 7.32 crore to Egis Rail for consultancy services in the detailed design of station components for Phase II project. The 11.2 km fully elevated corridor from JLN Stadium to Infopark via Kakkanad will feature 11 new stations, enhancing urban connectivity.


Introduction:

Under this contract which has stipulated completion period of 30 months, Egis Rail will be responsible for the architectural, finishing, and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) works for station structures, including:

  • Main station box
  • Entry/exit buildings
  • Ancillary structures
  • Miscellaneous works
  • Property development elements (including customer experience enhancements and wayfinding signage)

Additionally, Egis Rail will undertake the detailed structural design for entry/exit buildings, ancillary structures, and property development across the corridor.

About Kochi Metro Phase II Corridor:

The Phase II corridor of the Kochi Metro Rail Project is a fully elevated metro line spanning 11.2 km from JLN Stadium to Infopark via Kakkanad, comprising 11 new stations. The new stations planned along the corridor include:

  • Palarivattom Junction, Palarivattom Bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamughal, Kakkanad Junction, Cochin SEZ, Chittethukara, KINFRA, Infopark I, Infopark II.
  • The JLN Stadium Metro Station, which serves as the starting point for Phase II, is an existing station from the Phase I corridor. The extension to Infopark aims to improve connectivity to Kakkanad, a key IT and commercial hub, benefiting thousands of daily commuters.

Conclusion:

The Kochi Metro Phase II corridor is a major step in expanding the city’s public transport infrastructure. With Egis Rail leading the detailed design of stations, the project aims to offer world-class metro facilities, enhance urban mobility, and support economic growth by connecting the IT hub of Kakkanad to the metro network.
