Kanpur’s metro journey is set to revolutionise city transit, with trial runs starting soon on the IIT to Kanpur Central route. This 25-minute ride will link key parts of the city, with trains arriving every 10-12 minutes at underground stations, making travel convenient and efficient for daily commuters.
Corridor-1 Overview:
Corridor-1 of the Kanpur Metro spans about 24 kilometres, extending from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta. The corridor is a combination of elevated and underground sections, offering improved connectivity to several key residential and commercial areas in the city. Upon completion, it will drastically reduce travel time and ease congestion on the city’s roads.
Impact on Commuters:
The IIT-Kanpur Central Metro line is expected to ease traffic congestion significantly, providing an eco-friendly alternative to road travel and reducing dependence on other modes of transport within the city.
Test Run on Chunniganj-Nayaganj:
In October, the first test run of the metro train was successfully conducted on the ‘down line’ of Kanpur Metro’s Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground section. Starting from Motijheel, the train reached Nayaganj, passing through key stations, as locals enthusiastically welcomed the metro. This marks a major step forward in completing the 15 km route from IIT to Nayaganj. Read Here
