New Delhi: Hyundai Rotem, a machinery unit of Hyundai Motor Group, has won an order for supply of 96 metro cars worth 177.1 billion (US$ 159 Million) for Ahmedabad Metro Rail, the company said. The vehicles will be manufactured at Hyundai Rotem’s plant in Changwon, Korea, with deliveries due to take place between April 2019 and July 2020.
The metro cars will be used in the 20.7 kilometer-long route that runs through Ahmedabad from Vastral Gaam in the east to Thaltej Gaam in the west in the state of Gujarat.
They will have a maximum speed of 80km/h, a capacity for up to 782 passengers and feature CCTV and LCD passenger information screens.
With the contract, the company’s unmanned subway car orders have exceeded 2,000 units, including 1,681 to overseas markets, it said.
Hyundai Rotem manufactures railway systems, defense systems & plant equipment.
