Hyderabad Metro update: Survey work begins for Medchal & Shamirpet metro corridors

Survey works for the JBS-Medchal (24 km) and JBS-Shamirpet (21 km) metro corridors are progressing swiftly, with traffic surveys and soil testing nearing completion. These essential studies, directed by Hyderabad Metro MD Mr. NVS Reddy, will shape the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for expansion. The state government will receive the reports by March for further approval.

Key Studies Underway:

  • Traffic Surveys: Assess commuter travel patterns, projected ridership, and travel time improvements.
  • Soil Testing (Geotechnical Investigation): Borehole drilling is conducted to determine soil conditions, load-bearing capacity, and seismic stability.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA): Evaluates air and noise pollution, biodiversity concerns, and local community impact.

As of now, 14 out of 25 soil tests in the Medchal corridor and 11 out of 19 in the Shamirpet corridor have been completed. The entire survey process is expected to conclude by the end of this month.

Next Steps in Metro Expansion:

  • The studies align with the directives of Telangana Chief Minister Mr. Revanth Reddy, ensuring systematic planning for metro expansion.
  • Alongside the Medchal and Shamirpet corridors, similar studies are being conducted for the Shamshabad Airport-Future City metro route.
  • Upon finalization, DPRs will be submitted to the state government by March. After state approval, the proposals will be forwarded to the central government for necessary clearances.

Conclusion:

The swift progress of survey works marks a significant step in expanding Hyderabad’s metro network. Once approved, these corridors will enhance connectivity and reduce congestion in key suburban areas. With a structured approach to planning, the project aims to provide a seamless and efficient urban transit system for future commuters.
