Hyderabad Metro update: JBS set to become India’s largest metro junction

Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) in Secunderabad is set to become India’s largest Metro interchange hub, overtaking Delhi’s Kashmere Gate. With multiple new Metro corridors converging, including the ambitious Medchal-RGI Airport line, JBS will revolutionize Hyderabad’s transit landscape, ensuring seamless connectivity across the city and beyond. A game-changer for urban mobility.

JBS – A Transformational Metro Hub:

Hyderabad Metro is set to transform Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) in Secunderabad into India’s largest Metro interchange, surpassing Delhi’s Kashmere Gate. The proposed Metro expansion will make JBS a central transit hub connecting multiple new corridors and enhancing city-wide connectivity.

MD Stated:

HAML Managing Director, Mr. NVS Reddy, shared details of the project, stating, “We plan to develop a mega Metro hub at JBS by consolidating approximately 30 acres of land from the state and defence authorities. This development will cater to commuters from Secunderabad, northern parts of the city, and passengers from northern Telangana districts.”

The Medchal to RGI Airport Line – India’s Longest Metro Route:

A key component of this expansion is the 60-km Medchal to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGI) Metro corridor. If implemented, it will become India’s longest Metro line, exceeding Delhi Metro’s 59.2-km Pink Line. This ambitious project is being led by Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), with a state-of-the-art interchange planned at JBS.

JBS – The Mega Metro Hub:

JBS will act as a gateway for Metro routes extending to various parts of Hyderabad, including Medchal, Shamirpet, Kokapet, Patancheru, Hayathnagar, and the airport. HAML Managing Director, Mr. NVS Reddy, revealed plans to consolidate 30 acres of land to develop this major transit hub, benefiting commuters from Secunderabad and northern Telangana.

Optimizing Metro Alignments for Seamless Connectivity:

Hyderabad Metro officials are working on optimizing Metro alignments to minimize disruptions and maximize efficiency. A recent inspection suggested initially merging the Paradise-Medchal and JBS-Shamirpet corridors before splitting them, ensuring smooth operations.

Double-Elevated Structure for JBS-Shamirpet Line:

The JBS-Shamirpet Metro corridor will feature a double-elevated structure over the HMDA elevated corridor on Rajiv Rahadari (Karimnagar Highway). The project will also involve highway widening to integrate the Metro seamlessly with road infrastructure.

Conclusion:

JBS is poised to redefine Hyderabad’s Metro connectivity, serving as the most significant interchange in India. With strategic expansion, seamless route integration, and enhanced commuter convenience, the Metro hub will accelerate urban mobility and set new benchmarks for efficient public transport. Hyderabad’s transit future is ready for a monumental transformation.
