Coimbatore to get its Metro, as CMRL is likely to take up the task to conduct a feasibility study & prepare a DPR (Detailed Project Report) on the mass transit system.
The 10 months study which includes preparing a feasibility report & a DPR would cost around Rs 13 crore.
German government-owned development bank, KfW, has expressed interest in providing funds to conduct the feasibility study & the balance amount left out of the 13 Crore required, will be paid by the State government.
CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Corporation) will also prepare a DPR regarding city bus improvement proposals & non-motorised plans for Coimbatore city.
The CMRL will conduct preliminary environmental impact study along the alignment & propose environment management plan for construction & operation phase.
The move comes after Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami made an announcement in the Assembly to introduce a Metro Rail in Coimbatore.
