Giving a further boost to its efforts in ensuring enhanced last mile connectivity, the Delhi Metro in association with cab aggregators Uber and Ola formally kickstarted a pilot project. Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) inaugurated the Kiosks set up by Uber and Ola at Dwarka Sec-21 and Rajiv Chowk Metro stations respectively. These kiosks will provide booking facility of cabs for the Metro’s commuters. Commuters will also be able to get information regarding booking status and location of already booked cabs, etc.

Presently, Uber has set up such kiosks at Dwarka Sec-21 and Sikanderpur Metro station whereas, Ola at M G Road and Noida Sec-18. Both the cab aggregators have also set up their kiosks at the central hub of Rajiv Chowk interchange station also. Signages will be displayed at inside/outside Metro stations for the information of public.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mangu Singh, Managing Director, DMRC said, “DMRC has always kept the interest of its commuters at the centre of its functioning. Our agenda is to make mobility seamless by providing access to feeder transportation and to help our passengers reach their ultimate destinations. With this collaborative partnership with Cab aggregators like Uber & Ola, we are looking forward to encouraging more and more people to use the Metro and have ease of access for the last mile connectivity.”

Mr. Madhu Kannan, Chief Business Officer, Asia Pacific, Uber, who was also present on the occasion said, “At Uber, we have always believed that complementing public transit infrastructure with Uber’s convenient and reliable rides can make cities a lot more accessible and sustainable. By making it easy to travel to and from metro stations, we intend to alleviate the need for parking and make first and last mile connectivity more seamless. We are excited to work with DMRC to extend public transit’s reach in Delhi and redefine the future of urban mobility. This is Uber’s first partnership with one of the largest global transit networks and we look forward to setting the gold standard for how we work together to improve our cities, as we “innovate in India for the world”. As a subset of Uber’s ‘Lower the window’ initiative, we hope that this partnership will encourage Delhiites to adopt shared mobility and public transit alternatives over private vehicles, and thereby help reduce smog and congestion-bred pollution.”

DMRC intends to allot bare spaces at almost all Metro stations to the cab aggregators for catering the last mile needs of the commuters. Already, 400 bare space has been identified at 210 metro stations. The allotment shall be made through an Open tender scheme in coming few months.
