Delhi Metro Phase-IV: PM Modi inaugurates 2.8 km Magenta Line extension

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has opened a 2.8 km stretch from Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extension on the Magenta Line, marking the first operational segment of Phase IV expansion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the extension and laid the foundation stone for the Rithala-Narela-Kundli Metro corridor, enhancing connectivity.


Inauguration and Foundation Stone Ceremony:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new section, highlighting its importance in urban connectivity. During the ceremony, he also laid the foundation stone for the construction of the 26.5 km Rithala-Narela-Kundli Metro corridor, which will further boost regional transport infrastructure.

Background and Network Expansion:

With this addition, the Delhi Metro network now spans 394.448 km and comprises 289 stations. The new section extends the operational Botanical Garden–Janakpuri West Magenta Line, which now totals approximately 40 km. Future phases of this extension to RK Ashram Marg are expected to be completed by 2026.

Operational Details:

  • Initially, trains on the Janakpuri West-Krishna Park Extension route will run at a frequency of 16 minutes.
  • This extension enhances commuter access to the Krishna Park Extension Station, ensuring smoother connectivity for nearby residents and daily travelers.

Future Plans:

  • The remaining sections of the Magenta Line extension are under construction, showcasing DMRC’s commitment to delivering phased infrastructure improvements.
  • Upon completion, this project will significantly enhance Delhi Metro’s reach and efficiency.
