Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has awarded Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) with the Operation and Maintenance of its 118.9 km Phase-2 metro network. Corridors C3, C4, and C5 will be covered under this Rs. 5,870 crore contract and it also includes maintenance of depots at Madhavaram, Poonamallee, and Semmancheri.
CMRL Partners with DMRC for Phase-2 Metro Operations:
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) bagged a contract from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) for managing the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of its Phase-2 network. Spanning 118.9 route km, the network includes three critical corridors:
- Corridor C3: Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri SIPCOT II
- Corridor C4: Lighthouse to Poonamallee Bypass
- Corridor C5: Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur
The scope also covers O&M activities at three key maintenance depots located at Madhavaram, Poonamallee, and Semmancheri.

Scope and Duration of the Contract:
- The contract, valued at Rs. 5,870 crores, encompasses all operations and asset maintenance works in adherence to global standards.
- DMRC will manage passenger services and infrastructure upkeep across the network and depots.
- The term of this agreement is set for 12 years, starting from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the final stage of Phase-2. It is also extendable by three more years, contingent on DMRC’s performance.
Recent Updates of Chennai Metro Phase-2:
- Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has commenced testing and trial runs for the first section of Phase-2 on Corridor-4, spanning from Poonamallee Depot to Mullai Thottam. This 3-km viaduct marks a major step in Chennai’s metro expansion, with the Poonamallee Depot playing a central role in overseeing trials and eventual system commissioning.
- In another key development, CMRL successfully completed the erection of the 624th and final U-girder on March 8, 2025. This work, executed by KEC International, finalizes the 8.28 km viaduct stretch between Poonamallee Bypass and Porur Junction on Corridor-4, significantly strengthening the city’s urban mobility network.
- Additionally, CMRL has completed the grade separator work between Mullaithottam and Karayanchavadi on Corridor-4. The successful movement of a motor trolley and RRV (Rail-cum-Road Vehicle) along this section indicates steady progress, moving the project closer to its goal of operational readiness by the end of 2025.
