Chennai: CMRL (Chennai Metro Rail Limited) has floated separate tenders for both soil tests & designing the alignment and stations for the underground & elevated sections of corridor-3 & 5 of phase-II project.
About The Corridors:
The Corridor-3 will cover a 46.1km stretch from Madhavaram to SIPCOT
It will have 50 stations
The corridor-5 will cover 45.2km from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur
It will have with 46 stations
The Chennai metro Phase-2, will cover 107.55km with 104 stations.
The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 85,047 crore.
The phase-2 is in a queue for getting approval from the Centre.
Soil tests are crucial for deciding on the approach to be followed during construction of the line & the stations.
The consultants are expected to conduct a detailed geotechnical investigation by drilling boreholes and collecting & testing the samples before submitting a report, officials said.
They are expected to complete the task in 8 to 10 months.
CMRL has divided the corridors into small stretches and floated 6 tenders to conduct the test.
