The Union Cabinet has approved the Rithala-Narela-Nathupur corridor under Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV, extending 26.463 km. This elevated line will boost connectivity between Delhi and Haryana, featuring 21 stations. Estimated at Rs. 6,230 crore, the project promises reduced congestion and pollution, enhancing economic growth and transport efficiency across the National Capital Region (NCR).
Route and Connectivity:
- The new corridor will extend the existing Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda)-Rithala Red Line.
- Spanning 26.463 km, the line will feature 21 elevated stations, connecting Rithala in Delhi to Nathupur in Haryana.
- Major areas served include Narela, Bawana, Rohini sectors, and Kundli.
Economic and Environmental Benefits:
Improved connectivity in the NCR will catalyze regional economic growth. Reduced traffic congestion and lower pollution from motor vehicles will foster a more sustainable urban environment.
Integration Across NCR:
Seamless travel will be enabled from Ghaziabad’s Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda to Nathupur in Haryana via Delhi, linking three states. This will be Delhi Metro’s fourth extension into Haryana, joining existing routes to Gurugram, Ballabhgarh, and Bahadurgarh.
Stations: The 21 stations include Rithala, Rohini Sectors 25, 26, 31, 32, 36, Barwala, and Bawana Industrial Area, among others, concluding at Nathupur.
Timeline and Execution:
- The corridor will be built within four years.
- The DMRC, a 50:50 SPV of GoI and GNCTD, will implement the project.
Phase-IV Progress:
The Rithala-Kundli line is part of Phase-IV’s planned expansion of 65.202 km with 45 stations. Over 56% of construction for three priority corridors is already complete, with completion expected by March 2026.
Current Network:
Operating 12 lines over 392 km with 288 stations, Delhi Metro serves an average of 64 lakh passenger journeys daily. It remains India’s largest metro network and a global urban transport leader.
Future Goals:
With additional corridors in planning, Delhi Metro aims to reinforce its role as the lifeline of the NCR. Continued investment in connectivity projects will enhance passenger experience, safety, and efficiency.
Conclusion:
The Rithala-Kundli corridor represents a pivotal step in Delhi Metro’s mission to connect the NCR comprehensively. By alleviating road congestion, reducing pollution, and boosting regional economic activity, this project will further cement Delhi Metro’s status as a world-class urban transport system driving sustainable growth in the capital and beyond.
