Bangalore: BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd.) has decided to install 29 more escalators at its stations by September. Mahendra Jain, MD of BMRCL, on Monday, opened an escalator in Mysuru Road Station, which is a terminal station. The new escalator at ‘B’ entry of the Mysuru Road station will ensure smooth movement of passengers in the station, Jain said.

More Information:

  • “We have already installed 196 escalators across 40 stations in Phase 1. We are planning to provide 511 escalators in 60 stations which is planned in Phase 2 project for the benefit of passengers.”
  • “Each escalator costs Rs 60 lakh. The contractor is Johnson Lifts. Commuters encountered problems with less number of escalators in Phase-1, so we are adding 29 more now. It is easier to add them for elevated stations rather than underground. The new escalator at Nayandahalli starts from Gate C and connects to the Mezzanine level (intermediate floor) below the concourse. We plan to use this level for property development. There are five escalators at Nayandahalli now,” N.M. Dhoke, Rolling Stock Director, said.
