Bhuj-Naliya rail gauge conversion project worth Rs. 1,100 crore commissioned in Kachchh, Gujarat

The Prime Minister dedicated the Bhuj-Naliya Rail Gauge Conversion Project to the nation. This Rs. 1,100 crore project features an array of infrastructure improvements including 24 major bridges, 254 minor bridges, 3 road over bridges, and 30 road underbridges, aiming to bolster connectivity and development in the Kachchh district of Gujarat.

Project Impact:

The conversion will unlock the freight potential of Kutch’s mineral belt and cement industries while linking border regions with the rest of India, promising socio-economic upliftment and strategic benefits.

Background:

Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, the 101.40 km gauge conversion of Bhuj-Naliya replaces the existing Metre Gauge link established in the 1980s. Previously isolated following the gauge conversion of the Ghandidham-Bhuj section, this section will now re-integrate with the national network.

Conclusion:

The Bhuj-Naliya Rail Gauge Conversion marks a transformative step in enhancing Kachchh’s connectivity and economic potential. By tapping into the region’s industrial and mineral wealth, this project not only strengthens national integration but also fosters growth, ensuring Kachchh’s strategic and socio-economic prominence in the years ahead.
