Bangalore Metro’s underground tunnelling milestone is achieved as TBM Bhadra completes the final breakthrough at Nagawara Station. This marks the completion of the 20.99 km tunnelling across the 13.76 km underground stretch from South Ramp to Nagawara. With nine TBMs involved, Phase-2 tunnelling is now 100% completed.
Introduction and Milestone Achievement:
TBM Bhadra, the final tunnel boring machine, successfully completed the southbound tunnel breakthrough at Nagawara Underground Metro Station on October 30, 2024. The TBM completed a 937-metre stretch, having launched from K.G. Halli on April 2, 2024.
Completion of Underground Tunnelling for Phase-2, Reach-6 Line:
This achievement concludes the underground tunnelling for the Reach-6 Line of Phase-2, amounting to a total of 20.99 km from Dairy Circle’s South Ramp to Nagawara. All nine TBMs completed their designated sections, ensuring 100% tunnelling completion.
Tunnelling Highlights:
- First TBM Urja’s launch date and maximum daily tunnelling of 27 meters, recorded on April 25, 2022, between Cantonment and Pottery Town.
- Record monthly progress by TBM Tunga of 308 meters in July 2024 between KG Halli and Nagawara.
Overview of the Underground Section:
- Total underground section length: 13.76 km.
- Tunnelling length: 20.99 km (100% completed).
- No. of TBMs deployed and completed work: 9 Nos.
- Underground stations and progress: 12 stations, with 90% of station works completed.
Conclusion:
This final breakthrough by TBM Bhadra at Nagawara marks a key accomplishment in Bangalore Metro’s Phase-2 project. With 100% of the underground tunnelling now completed, the focus will shift to finishing the remaining station works, moving closer to enhancing urban transit connectivity in Bangalore.
