Assystem India has successfully completed the design consultancy for Mumbai Metro Line 3, a 33.5 km underground metro corridor set to transform Mumbai’s urban mobility. Connecting key hubs like Cuffe Parade and BKC, this project aims to reduce road traffic, improve air quality, and drive economic growth, offering commuters unparalleled convenience.
Phase 1 Inauguration and Timeline:
The first phase of this ambitious project, spanning 12.44 km from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 5, 2024, and opened for public use on October 7, 2024. The remaining sections are set to become operational by June 2025, further cementing Mumbai’s status as a global urban hub. The project is operated by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL).
Traffic Reduction and Environmental Impact:
- Aims to cut road traffic by 35%, reducing congestion by taking approximately 700,000 vehicles off the roads.
- Significant reduction in carbon emissions to improve air quality in one of India’s most polluted cities.
Enhanced Connectivity:
- Seamlessly connects Mumbai’s southern and western suburbs, offering faster access between major hubs like Cuffe Parade and the airport.
- Travel time to critical locations, such as the airport, is expected to be halved, benefiting commuters and travellers.
Economic Growth:
- Stimulates redevelopment and urban rejuvenation, making the region more attractive to investors and homebuyers.
- Expected to create jobs and boost Mumbai’s real estate market, contributing positively to the local economy.
