Alstom has secured a €144 million (INR 1,285 crore) contract to supply Mitrac traction components and electrical equipment for 17 Vande Bharat sleeper trainsets. The contract includes maintenance and support services for five years post-warranty. Production begins in 2027, reinforcing Alstom’s commitment to India’s Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
Scope of the Contract:
The contract encompasses preventive and corrective maintenance of traction and major electrical components for a five-year period post-warranty. The equipment will be installed in 24-car sleeper trainsets (408 cars) designed for a maximum speed of 180 km/h and a service speed of 160 km/h. The systems will be supplied to Indian Railways’ Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.
Manufacturing & Execution Timeline:
- Alstom’s execution will take place at its Maneja facility, which specializes in bogies and traction equipment.
- The first prototype is set for delivery by August 2026, with serial production beginning in 2027. Maintenance services will commence in 2029.
- The Maneja site, established in 1996, currently handles over 20 projects and operates at a capacity of 900,000 man-hours across two shifts.
