Upcoming event: 23rd Edition of NT EXPO 2025

Advances in railway projects mark a new chapter of the modal in the country

Prospects for expansion of the railway sector increases the participation of companies in the main meeting of the freight and passenger railway sector in Latin America, NT Expo – Negócios nos Trilhos, which returns in 2025 (and with a new home)

São Paulo, July 2024 – The progress of railway projects in the country has gained traction in recent months, which is a reason for optimism for the sector. The demand for the modernization and expansion of the rail modal is justified due to the various logistical and economic advantages that the railroads offer in comparison with the road modal. At the federal level, in early June, the Minister of Transport, Renan Filho, signed an ordinance that establishes guidelines for the early extension of public rail transport service concessions.

The minister also signed an addendum for the optimization of the concession contract of the Malha Paulista, under the management of Rumo S/A. The addendum generated an additional revenue of R$ 1.3 billion of resources to be reinvested in the Malha Paulista itself and another part – about R$ 670 million – that will be allocated in the National Railroad Plan. The public administration has been conducting negotiations with the concessionaires for contractual renegotiations – such as the one finalized with the Malha Paulista – creating the possibility of adding another R$ 20 billion to invest in railroads.

With the government of Paraná, the Ministry of Transport signed two Technical Cooperation Agreements (ACT) for the development of solutions aimed at the Nova Ferroeste project, which provides for 1,567 kilometers of tracks, cutting through 66 municipalities in Paraná, Santa Catarina and Mato Grosso do Sul and a study on the current railway network that cuts through the three southern states,  the Southern Network.

In another public initiative, the government of São Paulo recently announced the SP Nos Trilhos program, which brings together more than 40 state projects for the transportation of passengers and cargo by rail, which add up to investments estimated at R$ 194 billion and more than 1 thousand km of railroad network. Among the projects already qualified are the Intercity Trains North Axis (São Paulo-Campinas), West Axis (São Paulo-Sorocaba), East Axis (São Paulo-São José dos Campos) and South Axis (São Paulo-Santos); lines 10 and 14 (ABC Leste), and 11, 12 and 13 (Alto Tietê) of urban trains, lines 19 and 20 of the subway and the VLTs of Campinas and Sorocaba.

Heated Market:

“Projects to expand the railway network are essential to reduce the so-called Brazil Cost, since the possibility of having rail connections in Brazil has a direct impact on the reduction of logistics costs and the time of transport of goods. Taking advantage of the advantages of the rail modal, the country benefits and boosts competitiveness in Brazilian exports and in the internal distribution of all types of cargo. In addition, the railroad is the means of transport that stands out the most in terms of efficiency and sustainable mobility, with the use of alternative fuels”, says the director of the Infrastructure and Technology Portfolio at Informa Markets Latam, Hermano Pinto Junior.

According to the business manager of NT Expo – Negócios nos Trilhos, Fernando D’Ascola, ahead of the main meeting of the rail freight and passenger sector in Latin America, the heating up of the market can be felt in the demand for companies interested in participating in the event. “The demand has been intense, both from national and international companies. We already have an important group of companies from practically the entire chain of solutions in equipment, machinery, technology and services related to rail transport”, anticipates D’Ascola.

The 23rd edition of NT Expo – Business on the Rails will be held from April 22 to 24, in the new Anhembi District, in São Paulo, – in parallel with Intermodal South America – and brings together companies linked to the operation of cargo and passengers, electrification, train manufacturing, maintenance and inspection of permanent track and concrete sleepers, and equipment. In addition, international brands will be present with companies from Germany, Spain and China.

“NT Expo is an event that explores the full power of the railway industry, by promoting the meeting between the main players in the sector, with an exclusive environment for the exhibition of market news and the discussion about the future of the sector”, highlights D’Ascola.

The last edition of the event, in 2023, brought together more than 100 national and international brands, 50 speakers, with an audience of more than 4 thousand professionals in the sector.
