Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has launched smart cards with UPI-based recharge; it is now available in all the Ticket Vending Machines and counters across its network. This initiative will reduce ticket purchasing queues and accelerate digital accessibility, aligns with the country’s goal of digital India. Enables daily commuters to travel cashless and save their ticket purchasing times.
Introduction:
As a noteworthy advancement, The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has come up with the solution to let commuters have convenient and hassle-free travel journeys by enabling UPI-based recharge of smart cards. This facility is available now in all the Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) and ticket counters of Noida Metro.
This is a proper initiative to allow cashless and contactless transactions, aims to enhance digital metro travel and elevate passengers’ metro journey. In November 2024, Noida Metro successfully implemented QR code ticket purchasing via TVMs in 21 stations, this initiative will have a positive impact on commuters traveling journey.
Key Features of the New Facility:
Recharge Smart Cards via UPI:
Commuters are able to use any kind of UPI payment app to recharge their smart card for travel purposes. Apps like Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, BHIM, etc., can be used to purchase their metro ticket online at ticket counters and Ticket Vending Machines.
Minimum & Maximum Limits:
- Minimum recharge available- Rs. 100
- Recharge in multiples of Rs. 100 thereafter
- Maximum recharge amount- Rs. 2000
The metro follows the Reserve Bank of India’s UPI guidelines for the limits.
Card Balance Enquiry Facility:
Customers don’t have to tour the ticket counter and be in a queue the check the card balance, they can easily check it at the Ticket Vending Machines available at the metro station.
Enhanced Commuter Experience:
This development will work as a relief during rush hours, where passengers just have to pay by UPI to recharge their smart card. There will be less crowd around the ticket counters as passengers don’t have to recharge their card for every journey. The station crowd will be easy to manage because of this facility, allowing smooth and quick access to platforms.
Moreover, commuters can go cashless and still buy the ticket, enabling a contactless and hygienic travel environment.
Support to Digital India:
This initiative strengthens our journey towards achieving Digital India by allowing cashless transactions. UPI is now used in almost every part of the country so it can be used by a large number of masses to cut down their travel time by purchasing tickets through UPI. NMRC reinforces its position in building a smart urban transport ecosystem by enabling UPI-based smart card recharges.

The launch of UPI-based recharge at all NMRC ticket machines allows efficient, convenient, and less travel time for daily commuters. The initiative plays a large role in the travel journey of the passengers, strengthening NMRC’s role in the development of smart urban mobility in India.
