Nagpur Metro Phase-2: Piling work completed at Pili Nadi, AIR, and Lok Vihar stations

Maha Metro achieves a significant milestone with 100% piling completed at Pili Nadi, AIR, and Lok Vihar stations on the Kamptee Road stretch of Nagpur Metro Phase-2. With rapid progress on Reach-2A construction and broader network expansion, Phase-2 expected to bring suburban Nagpur closer to seamless urban connectivity.

Introduction:

Nagpur’s urban transit vision received a major boost as Maha Metro achieved 100% completion of piling works at three major stations—Pili Nadi, All India Radio (AIR), and Lok Vihar—along the Kamptee Road corridor under Reach-2A of Nagpur Metro Phase-2. This milestone marks a vital step in the rapid advancement of infrastructure works on the northern extension of the metro network.

Key Station Updates on Reach-2A:

The piling work—a critical foundational activity involving the construction of deep support columns—has now been completed at-

  • Pili Nadi Station: 148 out of 148 piles completed
  • All India Radio (AIR) Station: 122 out of 122 piles completed
  • Lok Vihar Station: 140 out of 140 piles completed

This 100% completion signifies the readiness of these locations for subsequent construction activities such as pile caps, piers, pier caps, and segment erection.

Progress on Other Construction Elements – Reach-2A:

The Reach-2A corridor extends from Automotive Square to Kanhan, a 13 km stretch forming a crucial suburban transit route. As per the latest update, civil works across the corridor are progressing steadily:

  • Piers: 68% completed
  • Pile Caps: 77% completed
  • Segment Casting: 40% completed
  • Span Erection: 26% completed

This ongoing civil work pace indicates that the corridor is well on track to meet its delivery timelines, setting the stage for a transformational upgrade in city and regional connectivity.

Phase-2 Expansion – Overview & Significance:

Nagpur Metro Phase-2, an ambitious 43.8 km expansion, will improve urban mobility by extending metro connectivity deep into Nagpur’s suburban pockets. The project includes the construction of 32 new metro stations and four new corridors engineered to provide last-mile connectivity and ease congestion in growing residential and industrial zones. Detailed Corridor Breakdown-

  • Khapri to MIDC ESR (18.5 km | 10 Stations):

Serving the industrial south-west belt of Nagpur, this line links major development areas and industrial units in Butibori. Stations– Eco Park, Metro City, Ashokvan, Dongargaon, Mohgaon, Meghdoot CIDCO, Butibori Police Station, Swadha Colony, MIDC KEC, MIDC ESR

  • Prajapati Nagar to Transport Nagar (5.6 km | 3 Stations):

This stretch increases eastward access towards logistics hubs. Stations– Pandav Nagar, Kapsi, Transport Nagar

  • Automotive Square to Kanhan (13 km | 12 Stations):

A main focus area under Reach-2A, this alignment targets northern expansion and includes the now-completed piling stations. Stations– Pili Nadi, Khairi Fata, All India Radio, Khasara Fata, Lok Vihar, Lekha Nagar, Cantonment, Kamptee Police Station, Golf Club, Kanhan City

Benefits and Impact:

With its well-planned Phase-2 corridors, Nagpur Metro is set to transform mobility for thousands of commuters, particularly those living or working in outer areas like Kamptee, Hingna, and Butibori. The metro will:

  • Accelerate last-mile urban and industrial connectivity
  • Decongest busy arterial roads
  • Encourage modal shift from private vehicles to public transport
  • Minimise environmental impact through cleaner, electric mass transit

Additionally, the fast-paced execution underscores Maha Metro’s focus on timely project delivery and quality infrastructure development.

Engineering and Project Management Highlights:

The piling achievement is not just a symbolic milestone but a testament to the project management precision of Maha Metro. Completing over 400 piles across three stations without delays showcases:

  • Efficient contractor coordination
  • Optimized site engineering
  • Seamless material and labor logistics
  • Strong adherence to quality and safety norms

These factors will be instrumental as the project transitions into subsequent construction phases including concourse slabs, roofing, architectural works, and track-laying.

Conclusion:

With piling completed at key stations and civil work advancing rapidly on Reach-2A, Nagpur Metro Phase-2 is charting a strong course toward timely completion. The 43.8 km network expansion will play an important role in shaping sustainable, inclusive, and well-connected urban mobility for Nagpur’s future growth and development.
