Indore Metro ready for service as PM Modi inaugurates Super Priority Corridor

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the 6-km Super Priority Corridor of Indore Metro’s Yellow Line. This ultra-modern section, from Gandhi Nagar to Super Corridor-3, marks Madhya Pradesh’s first metro service. It’s set to accelerate urban mobility, minimise congestion, and add a new identity to India’s cleanest city—Indore.


Introduction:

In a key milestone for urban transportation in Madhya Pradesh, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated passenger services on the Super Priority Corridor of the Indore Metro. The inauguration took place during the “Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Mahila Empowerment Maha Sammelan” held in Bhopal.

The Prime Minister launched the metro operations virtually, with several prominent dignitaries present on the ground in Indore, symbolizing a proud moment for the state as it takes a major leap in modern mobility solutions.

Project Highlights – Indore Metro’s Yellow Line:

The inauguration was virtually addressed by the Hon’ble Prime Minister from Bhopal, while in Indore, several dignitaries witnessed the historic launch-

  • Shri Tokhan Sahu – Union Minister of State for Housing & Urban Affairs
  • Shri Shankar Lalwani – Member of Parliament, Indore
  • Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya – Hon’ble Minister, Urban Development & Housing
  • Shri Pushyamitra Bhargav – Mayor of Indore
  • Other Officials and Citizens – Gathered to celebrate the landmark moment

The presence of top central and state government representatives underscored the importance of the project in enhancing public transportation and infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh.

Boosting Urban Development & Connectivity:

During his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the broader goal behind the metro launch. He described it as a symbol of India’s commitment to advancing urban infrastructure, improving ease of living, and supporting economic growth. The Indore Metro will not only provide a comfortable commute but is also expected to significantly reduce city traffic and air pollution.

A Step Forward in Madhya Pradesh’s Metro Journey:

The inauguration of the Indore Metro marks Madhya Pradesh’s first-ever operational metro service, putting the state on the national map of metro-enabled cities. The Prime Minister also touched upon the status of Bhopal Metro, stating that its construction is advancing rapidly and will soon join Indore in transforming the state’s public transport system.

The government’s focus on integrated transport infrastructure was further evident through-

  • Ratlam–Nagda Third and Fourth Line – Recently approved to enhance rail connectivity and reduce congestion in the region.
  • Indore–Manmad Rail Project – Another key infrastructure development aimed at boosting regional connectivity.
