Managing Commuters movement at interchange stations of any mass rapid transit system is one of the biggest challenges. The flow of commuters ‘entry /exit for stations, boarding and de- boarding at platforms is not only difficult to manage but failing to do so leads to the risk of a potential stampede. The risk factor grows tenfold during peak hours including festival times and other such important occasions. Understanding the  gravity of the issue, first time in India, NCRTC has planned to implement the segregation of entry and exit of the passengers at the Sarai kale Khan RRTS terminus, which is likely to be one of the biggest transport hubs

  • All the three corridors of phase – 1, i.e. Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut, Delhi –Sonipat – Panipat and Delhi – Gurugram – Rewari – Alwar are converging at Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station in Delhi
  • The Sarai Kale Khan station of RRTS will have separate platforms for boarding and de-boarding. Commuters will board and deboard on the same train from separate platforms.

  • Dedicated platforms for boarding and de-boarding will provide lot of ease to commuters by creating round about affect to avoid conflict between boarding/de-boarding the train.
  • This will ensure uniform loading of passenger at platform with easy access/dispersal

  • Such type of commuter management measure will ensure that passengers have a comfortable transit experience at the converging station.
  • It will also enhance the safety and minimize the travel time of the passengers
  • This will be first time in the country that this kind of unique commuter management measure of dedicated boarding and de-boarding platforms is proposed in a mass rapid transit system.

Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station in Delhi

  • All the three corridors of phase – 1, i.e. Delhi – Ghaziabad – Meerut, Delhi – Sonipat – Panipat and Delhi – Gurugram – Rewari – Alwar are converging at Sarai Kale Khan RRTS station in Delhi.
  • Commuters would be able to travel from one corridor route to another without inter changing the rail. Inter-connecting the three corridors and making them interoperable would allow seamless movement of commuters across NCR.
  • The proposed Sarai Kale Khan RRTS terminus station shall be a transit hub seamlessly integrated with the Nizamuddin Railway Station, Metro Station and ISBT by means of Lifts, Escalators, Walkways and Underpasses. NCRTC is committed for similar multi-modal integration with other transport modes wherever needed in all RRTS corridors.
