Shri N.C. Karmali appointed as Director (Works) at IRCON

Shri Naresh Chandra Karmali, IRSE officer of the 1990 batch and current Principal Executive Director (Gati Shakti), Railway Board, assumes additional charge as Director (Works) at IRCON from 9th May 2025. An ambitious civil engineer and leader in transport strategy, Shri Karmali brings decades of infrastructure expertise to the role.

In a significant development, Shri N.C. Karmali has assumed the additional charge of Director (Works) at IRCON with effect from 9th May, 2025. He will be holding this position in addition to his current role as Principal Executive Director (Gati Shakti) in the Railway Board, New Delhi.

This strategic step comes at a time when IRCON continues to play a crucial role in major infrastructure development across India and abroad.

A Distinguished Career in Railways:

Shri Karmali is a seasoned officer of the Indian Railways Service of Engineers (IRSE) from the 1990 batch. He holds a B.Tech (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the prestigious IIT Kharagpur. His academic and professional achievements showcase a strong foundation in engineering and transport infrastructure.

In addition, he has completed the Leader Programme in Urban Transport Planning from the Korean Transport Institute, South Korea – further accelerating his capabilities in integrated urban mobility strategy.

Key Roles and Contributions:

  • Served in Kolkata across several reputed assignments from May 2007 to March 2023.
  • Played a vital role in infrastructure projects as Chief Engineer/Construction, Indian Railways in Bilaspur from April 2023 to March 2024.
  • Currently working as Principal Executive Director in the Railway Board, leading the Gati Shakti initiatives.

His leadership has contributed immensely to project execution, construction management, and multi-modal connectivity under the Gati Shakti programme.
